September 11

On 9/11 it is time to be sure the memories of the reality of the World Trade Center tragedies are kept alive. Today we are aware of the pain of those who lost loved ones in the collapse of the towers and we remember the generosity and dedication of the police and firefighters who gave their all. As a nation the pictures of the plumes of smoke and people running are burned in our consciousness.
We are still working out our grief. Collectively our first reaction was denial "This can't be happening." We soon moved to anger. Our leaders sought to avenge this unfair loss of life. Some are still stuck in the anger. Does the loss of four thousand troops somehow compensate for the loss of three thousand people at home at the hands of religious fanatics. Hopefully some day we will come to a sense of resolution. An acceptance that the tragedy was the result of the actions of a group of insane individuals. Meanwhile we pray for peace, in ourselves and among nations.
